Focusing on ability

Employees with disabilities at LANL face challenges above those presented by their conditions due to the (often) invisible nature of disabilities, the stigma associated with self-identifying as an individual with a disability (IWD), and incorrect beliefs regarding the ability of IWDs to carry out essential job functions and obtain clearances.

The DiverseAbility Employee Resource group exists to support and say "yes!" to LANL employees with disabilities. Please join us!

Why DiverseAbility?

DiverseAbility was started in 2018 to foster a more accessible and inclusive work environment for individuals with disabilities (IWDs). About 56.7 million Americans and nearly 20% of the U.S. workforce have a disability, defined as a physical or mental condition that substantially limits one or more life activities. A person has a disability even if their symptoms are controlled or mitigated by treatment or adaptive strategies/devices.

Goal, Interests, Activities

Our primary goal is to foster a more accessible and inclusive work environment for individuals with disabilities at Los Alamos National Laboratory. We hold monthly meetings and support initiatives to build and sustain a welcoming and safe workplace for individuals with disabilities.

Interests and activities

Diverseability organizes informal discussions, activities, and initiatives on such topics as:

  • mentoring and career development
  • workplace accommodations
  • employment challenges and opportunities
  • HR and legal issues and protections
  • commonalities with other demographic groups and ERGs at the Lab
  • workplace communication
  • work-life satisfaction
Get involved

Anyone at the Laboratory who supports fostering a more accessible and inclusive work environment for individuals with disabilities is welcome to join the group. Show your support by attending sponsored events. Contact us at diversability@lanl.gov.
