Major Subcontractors Consortium awards $60,000 in grants to nonprofits
The Los Alamos National Laboratory Major Subcontractors Consortium, in partnership with the New Mexico Community Foundation and Los Alamos National Security, LLC, has awarded five economic development grants to nonprofit organizations serving communities in Northern New Mexico.
The grants support projects or initiatives that strengthen local product development and distribution, promote the use of locally-produced goods for sale outside the region, increase sales for local businesses, and/or support local job creation.
The five grants, totaling $60,000, were given to the following recipients:
- Española Valley Fiber Arts Center
- Los Alamos Institute's projectY cowork Los Alamos
- Reunity Resources
- Santa Fe Farmers' Market Institute
- Women's Economic Self-Security Team (WESST)
Laboratory Recognized by Santa Fe County Commissioners
The Board of County Commissioners of Santa Fe County issued a proclamation August 29 thanking the sponsors of the 2017 Pojoaque Basin Water Fair, including Los Alamos National Laboratory.
The fair was a cooperative effort from partners including the Pueblo of Pojoaque, the New Mexico Department of Health, the City of Santa Fe, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and gave around 200 private well owners the opportunity to have their well water tested at no cost. Los Alamos National Laboratory and Los Alamos National Security, LLC provided funding for the water testing.
U.S. Department of Commerce invests $1.2 million to establish business park in Questa
The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.2 million grant to the Village of Questa to establish a business park that is expected to spur $1.2 million in private investment.
“Due to the work of local leaders, this new business park in Questa will help attract new businesses and deliver jobs to the thousands of New Mexicans living in the region,” says U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross.
